1.
Silent Hills - The news of a Silent Hill game in the works was a big deal, but the fact that Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro were working together on it was even a bigger one. The game was supposed to feature Norman Reedus in the main role, who later ended up in Death Stranding. Players could play a demo in the form of a playable teaser, which isn’t readily available to play right now. However, players can play a recreation of the demo on PC. -
2.
Z.O.E. 3 - Here’s another Kojima title that ended up being canceled after a reveal. This time it was Zone Of The Enders 3, which was supposed to come out way back. However, in 2013, Kojima revealed the sad news by saying that Konami canceled it due to the poor sales of HD Collection. The game was rumored to feature an alternate reality and sounded pretty good. -
3.
Prey 2 - Before the Prey reboot released in 2017, there was a separate game titled Prey 2. This canceled game was meant to be a sequel to the original Prey. Despite a full-blown trailer in 2011, this game was revealed to be canceled in 2014. This happened since it wasn’t up to Bethesda’s quality standards. -
4.
Resident Evil 4 (Fog Version) - Here’s a released game, but in a completely different setting and style. The original idea for Resident Evil 4 was to showcase a much darker setting, castle, Leon S Kennedy, and fog-like monsters. This version existed back in 2001 and is said to be the grounding stones for Devil May Cry. -
5.
inSANE - Not much is known about this survival horror game, except it was hyped because Guillermo del Toro was making it. After briefly appearing in December 2010, the game was soon canceled in 2012. The reason for that is probably THQ’s defunct in January 2013. The IP remains with Del Toro, so maybe there’s still a chance of a new release. -
6.
Thrill Kill - The popular “Street Fighter” or “Mortal Kombat” Killer would soon die itself, and the murderer was Electronic Arts. Thrill Kill was set to be a "full-blown adult" fighting game, but after EA gained the publishing rights to Thrill Kill, they canceled it because it was too violent. The four-player fighting game was almost 99% finished, according to senior programmer David Ollman. -
7.
Star Wars 1313 - This was soul-crushing bad, not just to the Star Wars fans but for every gamer, as the Star Wars 1313 looked like a really good game. The players would’ve taken on the role of a bounty hunter, and the storyline was set to be a little mature compared to the older games. The gameplay demo that was showcased was absolutely a beast. However, Disney shut down all LucasArts projects after acquiring them. -
8.
Project Ragtag - Star Wars 1313 wasn’t the only Star Wars game that was canceled. Enter, Project Ragtag, a third-person action-adventure video game directed by Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver writer Amy Hennig. Sadly, in 2017 developer Visceral Games was shut down by Electronic Arts. -
9.
Legacy Of Kain: Dead Sun - The action-adventure video game was developed by Climax Studios while Rocket League developer Psyonix built the multiplayer. Legacy Of Kain: Dead Sun was set to be the next game after Defiance. However, it was canceled in 2012. To this date, fans of the series are still waiting for the next installment. -
10.
Scalebound - When a developer like Platinum Games, who’re known for their work in action classics like Bayonetta and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, makes a Microsoft exclusive title, it is bound to turn some heads. Sadly, despite the immense hype, this action RPG was canceled, and Platinum studio head Atsushi Inaba revealed it was due to unfortunate circumstances. -
11.
Gotham By Gaslight - The demo trailer for this Batman game looked pretty awesome and different from Arkham games. Which is why people were waiting for it. The game was in development by Day1 Studios, the guys behind F.E.A.R 3. -
12.
Agent - Rockstar Games’ Sony exclusive title was a stealth action game but slowly disappeared from the internet. The page www.rockstargames.com/agent is still active, and it still shows that the game is coming out soon for PS3. But since its initial tease in 2007, everyone has remained awful quiet on this one. The only confirmed detail is that the game was set in the 1970s during the Cold War. -
13.
Doom 4 - Similar to Prey 2, a whole different Doom game was set to release before the alternate reality version we got in 2016. Doom 4 went through multiple development cycles but was eventually canceled in between. Luckily, the new Doom series goes back to the formula of original games and makes it better in every way. -
14.
The Getaway 3 - Sony exclusive alternate to Grand Theft Auto was meant to release on PS3. After mind-boggling tech demos, it felt like the game was set to really be a great Action-adventure sandbox title. However, it was soon canceled after Phil Harrison left, and Shuhei Yoshida became the president of SCE Worldwide Studios. -
15.
Eight Days - The canceled title Eight Days was probably one innovative game for its time. The action game felt like a hybrid of Uncharted and Total Overdose. This game was being developed by London Studio and could’ve been a great PS3 exclusive. Many players are still waiting for this one to come.
